These past few days the liberal side of Malaysian Twitter/X have been arguing against moderate clothing, saying ridiculous things along the lines of “the Malays used to be okay with wearing revealing clothes”.
My counter argument is that the Malays during that time were only just liberated from western colonization, so it did take some time for us to shed off the western clothing culture.
Anyway, this kind of argument from the liberals is really just a continuation of their fight for wearing short pants and other revealing clothes in public places such as our local universities, government buildings and hospitals.
I can’t really blame them for this obsession because the western media, mainly through hollywood movies, have been promoting half nakedness and hyper sexualization for years.
This continue to happen because the major corporations in the west decided that they can capitalize on sex to attract more consumers to purchase their product, which in turn lead to higher sales and increase of their overall profitability.
It is important for us as a nation to combat this phenomenon because it is actually a dangerous slippery slope that will eventually lead to the booming of a certain filth of an industry, which has already made it’s way to the local news headlines recently.
We don’t want this kind of future for our children.
I would like to propose that we revert back to our multi-cultural history, embrace and be inspired by the modesty that comes from our respective traditional clothing.
Modesty is a treasure in this modern age, and it is up to us to continue to protect it in order for us to strive and become a great nation once again, together.
