MANDARIN SPEAKERS ONLY

The life of today’s young adults truly begins after their graduation or for the less fortunate, after their school years.

This is when they start to enter the real world, full of hope to contribute back to the society with the knowledge they have acquired through their studies.

They scroll through websites like Jobstreet, Indeed and various others to search for dignified work and to start paying back their study loan or to finally help their struggling family.

As they scroll, they started noticing.

A large portion of the job ads on these sites, with job roles that are a perfect fit for them, are only accessible if they are able to adhere to the strict request of MANDARIN SPEAKERS ONLY.

Some of these job seekers are able to fulfil that request and even managed to get accepted for the job, but they face discrimination in terms of unequal pay and workload compared to the native mandarin speakers, the Chinese.

This form of discrimination in the private sector affects not only the Malays, but the Indian community as well, especially if the company’s HR Department is dominated by the Chinese.

Can this problem be addressed by the current coalition government? I do not think so, they depend too much on the Chinese votes.

We need to elect a party that is firm in their stance and doesn’t waver to the ridiculous demands from the Chinese community.

The Malays and Indians need to band together and give our support to PAS and Perikatan Nasional as our collective effort to push for a reform in the private sector.
